W związku z tą sytuacją 2 Batalion Czołgów do którego miały dotrzeć zamówione czołgi pozostał bez pojazdów. Postanowiono więc zmodernizować trochę już przestarzały czołg Landsverk L-60 (Stridsvagn m/38 & m/39). W listopadzie 1940, podpisano kontrakt z firmą Landsverk na produkcje zmodyfikowanych 100 czołgów Landsverk L-60. Czołgi te otrzymały oznaczenie Stridsvagn m/40 L (L=Landsverk). Ostatni czołg Strv m/40 L dostarczono do Szwedzkiej armi 9 marca 1942 roku.
Czołgi m/40 L dostarczono do batalionów I9 w Skövde i I10 w Strängnäs, w 1942 niektóre czołgi były przekazane do K2 w Helsingborg.
Czołgi Stridsvagn m/40 L wycofano z użycia w 1957, 20 czołgów sprzedano do Dominikany w 1960 roku gdzie były w używane do połowy lat 70-tych.
In March of 1940, 90 TNH-Sv tanks were commissioned from Czechoslovakia, but they were all captured by the Germans who needed them for their coming invasion on Soviet Union.
This resulted in zero tanks available for a planned second tank battalion. The only design that could be manufactured at once was the Landsverk L-60 tank (Stridsvagn m/38 & m/39).
However, this was out of date in 1940, and another design was required.
In November of 1940, a contract was signed with Landsverk to produce 100 Landsverk L-60 tanks. They were designated Stridsvagn m/40 L (L=Landsverk).
The last Strv m/40 L was delivered to the Swedish army on March 9th of 1942. The m/40 L had poor armor protection, and in May of 1941 it was decided to uparmor the tanks that remained in the production line. An additional 35mm thick armor plate was attached to the front plate, and it now had a frontal armor of 50mm.
The Strv m/40 L was the first tank ever built equipped with a hydrodynamical transmission, and many future transmissions of this type and other similar types was built by other countries under Swedish license. The m/40 L tanks were issued to I9 in Skövde and I10 in Strängnäs, but in 1942 some tanks were moved to K2 in Helsingborg.
The Stridsvagn m/40 L was withdrawn from service in 1957, but 20 of them were sold the Dominican Republic in 1960, and thy were still in service by mid-70's.

Lekki czołg Stridsvagn m/40 K

On July 1st of 1943, a new a tank brigade organization became valid. To meet the new demands of this, a further 202 10-ton tanks had to be built. The production of these vehicles was split between Landsverk and Scania-Vabis. In May of 1942 it was therefore decided that 80 Stridsvagn m/40 was to be ordered from Landsverk and 122 Stridsvagn m/41 SI (Swedish version of LT vz. 38) was to be ordered from Scania-Vabis. The 80 Stridsvagn m/40 was built by "Karlstad Mekaniska Verkstad" (Karlstad Mechanical Workshop) on license from Landsverk, and these tanks were slightly improved Stridsvagn m/40L's. The new Stridsvagn m/40 were designated m/40 K (K=Karlstad).
The m/40 K had improved torsion bar suspension, stronger engine and homogeneous armor. The production of the m/40 K was finally commissioned in June of 1942. All Stridsvagn m/40 K was fitted with a German FAK-55 gearbox with good performance. Delivery was to begin in November of 1943 with 10 m/40K per month. Delivery was delayed however, and the last m/40 K was not delivered until September of 1944. The m/40K tanks were issued to P2 in Helsingborg (later Hässleholm). Experiments were made with a m/40 K chassis in early 1950's, on which a 57mm m/43 anti-tank gun was fitted and the vehicle was named "Pansarvärnskanonvagn II" (Pvkv II). The Stridsvagn m/40 K was withdrawn from service in 1957.
